I was out walking the puppy yesterday, and I passed a house where I could hear lovebirds, cockatiels and an Australian parakeet chirping (I think a Princess of Wales).

Naturally, I got stupidly excited and wanted to go to the front door and exclaim, "Hi! You have birds! May I see?" But they had a gate instead, and no call button and I wondered if just standing by their gate in my gym clothes with a husky at my side bordered on stalking. Can you stalk someone about parrots?

Walking by there again tonight, though! I would love to meet the breeder!

Also on my walk, I passed a few houses where I could hear budgies. I wanted to knock on their doors, too.

I think it would be wisest if you waited till the person was out in the yard and then worked the conversation around to birds.
Things just aren't like they used to be.
40 (!!!) years ago when I was in college, I knocked on the doors of several people who lived in homes I was sure were designed by Frank Lloyd Write. We would chit chat and those who were ( all of the ones I went to) the people were so proud of their home that they would invite me in.
Can you picture ANY one in their semi right mind doing that today??? Me neither. You were born too late to be a good natured well intended busy body. sorry.:-)

I agree! And I had to look insane with my hair pulled back, in gym clothes, with the Husky excited because she could hear the birds. Kinda hope I get to meet them, though! I love lovies!

You could always leave your business card with a note in the mailbox & just let them know you live close by.

One of my biggest fears is someone breaking into my house & stealing my fid as I am sure many people fear the same so yes I would use caution.

The difference between parrots and kids is that it's cute when a parrot talks back.

And if you ever meet the person, be careful what you say because you said that you would love to meet the 'breeder' but some bird guardians would be deeply offended if somebody took them for a breeder... after all, bird breeders are not what you would call bird lovers.

Also if you really would like to meet fellow bird owners breeders and lovers in your area maybe you could arrange for a small get together or set up a yahoo internet group for "parronts" in your area.

Make up fliers with the info on them and either invite to a cookout at your place or at a local park You can have them contact you to RSVP maybe have folks bring along something or to join the yahoo group.

This is a great way to get to know others in the area and you could gather and share experiences as well as maybe due some fund raiser things for a local rescue in your area that type thing.

Just an idea I also love meeting fellow bird lovers who live near by I have actually met several through my local Freecycle and freecycle cafe group
