I have a 6 year old DYH Amazon who is having frequent large liquid droppings. He appears to strain at times but at other times has no problems. I've taken him to his avian vet and she says she sees no problems and all his test results came back negative. This problem seems to come and go. Has anyone else experienced this problem that can lend me some suggestions?

does your bird eat a lot of fruit at these times? This can cause watery droppings. Fear can cause large, frequent watery droppings, and if he is getting human food with salt in it, he will then drink a lot of water and can have watery droppings. By the way, they should never get salty or sugary foods. but pepper is fine.

I have 3 amazons and they will have watery poo if they eat fruit such as grapes. They will also seem to strain or be constipated if they have too much cheese. And before anyone gives me a hard time about feeding cheese to an amazon, 2 books about Zons and my vet said that a small portion of HARD cheeses, such as cheddar, are good for them. The way I keep them regular is to feed the cheese and the grape together. Other than that, about 80%-85% of their diet is pellets. I avois seeds for several reasons but the most important is that amazons are prone to fatty liver disease and seeds are FULL of fat. Try feeding your Zon a few pieces of apple or some whole wheat bread instead. Sprouted beans are a favorite in our flock and are very easy to do (just ask Pipper, LOL!).

IF your bird is not showing any signs of improvement within a day or 2, please make an appointment with your avian vet, just to be sure.

I really hope I helped you with this.

Give him ACV in his water for two weeks straight (two tablespoons per quart) and re-evaluate his diet.

I agree with what has been said & that is all I can think of too, fruit & drinking lots of water...like while having a bath. If the vet could see nothing wrong I would just continue to watch & pay attention to what he is eating or doing just prior to the big poops! Please let us know what you find out.

The difference between parrots and kids is that it's cute when a parrot talks back.
