I was at a baby shower this morning when my boyfriend called me.  He said that Sun's toenail had come off.  It was bleeding and I told him to see if he could put the styptic powder on her toe until I got home.  He does not know how she did it.  The tiels were out of their cages when Sun landed on my b/f.  He noticed that her feet were quite warm he looked down and noticed the blood.  Thank god the bleeding stopped by the time I came home.  There is only a tiny piece of her nail left.  I checked all of her toys and cage for anything that she could of caught her nail on.  I don't know how she did it.  She keeps her foot up (The one where the nail got caught on something).  I just made a vet appointment this past thursday but it is not until August for their well bird visit.  I'm keeping a close eye on Sunny.  Can her toe nail or toe get infected? Do you have any idea how Sun's nail broke?

I would bet that she got bitten by one of the other birds. Keep an eye on that toe for infection! I would take her to the vet anyway. They walk around in their poop and food and such and infection can set in easily and develop fast!

I've had a similar experience with my amazon. I'm going to agree that it was probably a bite from one of the other birds. Watch closly for infection and she's holding it up due to pain. To help her with that you can take a soft cloth like fleece and wrap around her favorite perch. That seemed to help Joey until I could get him to the vet. I hope she's feeling better soon!
