Is anyone seeing an earlier molt in your birds this year?

For the past two years, Pepper would have the back of his neck filled with many pinfeathers in June and he would begin to molt flight and tail feathers in July. Right now he has quite a density of pinfeathers on the back of his neck. Also, over the past week he’s shed five flight or tail feathers.

Though I know that light duration and strength is a major trigger to molting, I wonder if our recent four-day “heat wave” of 90’s and high 80’s degree weather, from the normal 50’s, may have influenced this earlier molting?

Is anyone else seeing an earlier molt this year? If “yes”, where are they in the process?

Thanks for sharing your observations.

I've noticed Olivia this past week has been dropping more downy feathers and a few others than usual.  Her usual molt is July and really heavy in August.  We've had more sun than usual in sunny Colorado this Spring.

well i don't know if i can compare it much to last year, however, i am noting that Forest, Gino and both tiels are molting wing and tail feathers already... Kiwi and Tumbler are just beginning but already have a number of feathers on their necks.

We've had summer high temperatures where I live right about now and the past few weeks.
Spirit had a molt starting last month, and I was told in another thread was too early for her to be molting.
It appears to be about over now. Her pin feathers are all gone, and all that's left to signal that she recently had a molt is the downy feathers showing on her upper chest. Her regular feathers are growing back in.i

I have noticed that Sherbert has begun his molting process earlier than he usually does. Sarge I am not sure about because I have only had him for a little over a month.

Thank you for the replies. I'm glad I'm not the only person observing an early molt this year.

Now, why is molting happening earlier?
