| does anyone know if the crepe murtle tree is safe for birds. I have 4 of them in my yard and i would love to cut some branches down and make a playtree. I won't do it until i'm 100% sure, i wouldn't want to hurt or possibly kill my precious birds thanks greylady

The SPCA has crape myrtle listed as non-poisonous for dogs, cats and horses but it doesn't say anything about parrots.

| The information I scrounged around for on the net, was severely contrasting. When a plant is listed as being toxic, it is possible that it could merely belong to a family or genus in which toxic plants resides. However; I would assume the worse case in any situation involving the safety of our fids. These are the two which listed crape myrtle as toxic. http://www.thelaughingparrot.com/Safeplants.html http://www.beaknwings.org/ed/woods.pdf This page describes crape/crepe myrtles as being "unequivocally toxic" ie clearly, without a doubt, although they don't list there . This is from a nonprofit rescue group's page. Hope this helps!
