Hay all, I got a Yellow Nape Amazon yesterday from Bird Paradise. She is awsome! I named her "Bella" which means Beuatiful in Italian. She was born May 2, 2008, and is saing "Hello" and makeing lots of different noises. She is in a 36in. by 28in. by 68in. cage, is that OK? I wanted to know do females grow larger then males or is it the other way around, or do they grow the same size? She loves to play, but can get nippy, probably because our trust isn't strong, because I just got her. Thanks All, and does anyone have any recipie treats they make for there Yellow Napes?

By the way any additional info, is accepted. Thanks

Congrats on your new amazon! Yes, I think that cage size should be fine. Just be sure to load it with different perches and toys, and she'll be as happy as a clam! What diet is she on? Sounds like she's going to be spoiled!

You're probably right: She's nippy most likely because she's in a new environment. I'm sure she'll get better with time.

Although I don't have any amazons, my birds love Beak Appetite's cookable foods!

Bella sounds like she will be a lucky girl!

I have a Blue Front named Asha and I spoil her rotten. Your cage sounds like it is plenty big enough. I feed Asha mainly Harrisons' pellets and treats. They need the pellets as part of their diet to assure that they get the needed nutrition. As for the nipping, you will be dealing with that for ever. Amazons can be territorial and sometimes they just like to nip for the heck of it. But they are wonderful, fun birds. Make sure she has lots of toys and gets plenty of exercise so she doesn't get fat. There is no size differrence or coloration difference between male and female Amazons. The only way to determime their sex is to do a DNA test. Or watch them lay an egg.

Pazzoman, welcome to the message board and forums.

Congratulations and good luck with your Yellow-Naped Amazon. You might find some recipes of interest in the articles found here: http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-diet-and-health/recipes-for-your-bird/topiclist.aspx. I find The Healthy Bird Cookbook to be my best resource and with plenty of great recipes to prepare. Here’s a link to it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0793805384/qid=1146067038/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-4755932-7333511?s=books&v=glance&n=283155.

For us to be a helpful as possible, would you please tell us about any previous experience you have had with parrots, especially parrots the size of your new fid (feathered kid).

I look forward to hearing more about Bella in your future posts.

Hay, all thanks for the advice and welcoming. Well Bela, enjoys to tear things  apart, she can get very moody. I'm thinking of changing her cage into a palace. By adding more perches, toys and more. She has an aleandrian parakeet next to her cage. The only bird that I had compare to her size was an African Grey Congo. I will post pics of her, if I can find my camera.
