First of all, I'm so sorry to hear about all of you guys' experiences with your fid's seizures. Everyone here seems like they really care for their birds, but Gigi definately went the extra mile for her poor sick fid. I hope all of your birds are healthy, and I hope the new medication works well.

What do bird seizures look like?

You have my sympathies and I hope your little one gets well soon. One thing though, is the vet an avian vet? The local vets I took my BE2 to because she was fitting, weren't (there are only 2 in my city and they are miles away, and I thought it was urgent), they treated her for zinc toxicity. Some time later I read an article on over dose with suppliments. It may have been this. Also I have never seen a bird copulate with another, her behaviour may have been due to her being overly stimulated (accidentally) by inappropriate petting. This is more likely now I've done more research. So just be sure your vet know his/her stuff.

Thanks for your concern and advice. I have actually had 2 avian vets see her. THey both believe the same thing. Her current avian vet is a bird owner herself and really seems to know her stuff. She is the best vet I have ever taken any of my animals too. Lucy is doing well, it has been months without a seizure. She is on her vertri-dmg every day and doing good.

Suppose I can finally add in here. Noel, my cherry head, has in the past had seizures (or so I can only assume), but was never put on any medications because they happened so infrequently. I changed avian vets, and found out that Noel had a bacterial infection, so she was put on anti-biotics (Cefadroxil) and Vetri-DMG to help support her immune system. I was told the DMG is good for the immune system, good for the liver (Noel was misdiagnosed as having liver disease), good for pets who have minor amounts of seizures (Noel hasn't had any in a while - even before the DMG which she hasn't been on for very long), and there are no known side effects.

After being on antibiotics and the DMG for 3 weeks, her gram stain looks *A LOT* better than it previously did. Noel is also feeling better, however the changes are rather minor in her behavior, considering she's normally a rather mellow bird to begin with.
