Our vet watched the video I took of Lucy during one of her episodes. He said that he believes she is having seizures. He put her on the medicine Vetri-DMG.

I would love to hear from anyone else who has a bird with seizures and/or is on this medication.

Also, I would like to know what steps people take to care for their bird during a seizure

I am so sorry to hear that.  I know there is a few people here that will have some advice for you that have experience with seizures.  I just wanted to wish you and Lucy the best.

You didn't say, but have you gotten any where on finding out what could be causing the seizures?
Lola has had seizures, though not one for a while. Hers were caused by heavy metal poisoning, though, so I treated that instead of hurting her liver further by giving her medicine for them.

Are Lola and Lucy the same species????? If so, it would be interesting to find out if this is common and if there is a connection.

Lucy is a dusky conure. Sadly, I haven't found out what is causing them. I should talk to the vet about that so I will call him after the holiday weekend

hey my name is gigi and my parot has also suffered from seizures:( it happened on the 4/29/08.

he has been to the vet,and they have put him on metacam and valium to reduce the seizures. vet said to put him down cause he had only 10% chances of surviving. But i refused to do it. Im not God. it lasted 3 whole days. His head would stop twisting only when he was in my hands and thats the only time he was able to sleep too. i guess the warmth keept him alive. So anyway i keept giving him meds, i force feed him cause he wouldnt eat, poor thing he was unable to eat and drink water, but i was perssistant. On the third day his diarrhea was gone. And one morning i caught him eating on his own. i had him isolated from my other birds and i had him in the box laying on the blanket. So as usually one day i was runnin home from work to give him water and feed him and when i got home he wasn't in his box.

The poor thing was flying. i found him on the closet. So anyway after five days the seizures stoped. he was eating but i guess he never learned how to drink water again. So now few months later i still give him water on the surringe. It is a big job its like having a baby but im glad he is alive. He actually aint the same parrot i used to have but he is still love of my life. He had a nerve damage so even when he flies around now its little unbalanced:) But im just glad he is still here with me. I love him even more cause i almost lost him. even now to this day i dont know what caused it. It couldnt't have been the food or lack of any vitamins because i feed my parrots with a great diet. It includes some seed but i make sure they have their veggies and fruit.....

So i really hope your parrot has survived. Hope he is fine. if he is still alive, force feed him, give him water, keep him warm and most of all give him love. thats what keeps them happy. please keep me posted :)

Gigi good for you and  so glad you and your fid are ok, What kind of parrot is it?

The difference between parrots and kids is that it's cute when a parrot talks back.

Gigi welcome to the forums!

As far a seizing birds go, apart from heavy metal toxicity and the like, I am not very familiar with the reasons. I have seen birds that tend to have them their entire life (on and off with stress). Holding these birds for the vet is always difficult because you do not want to stress them out too much but at the same time it is hard not to when they are in an unfamiliar environment being restrained. I have had about 2-3 birds have a seizure while I have been holding them and it always gave me a little shock.
