New Noel Pics

Here are two new photos of my son and his "noel" he is really good at helping to care for her. He helps feed her and holds and pets her 2-3 times a day. The only problem he has is with the timothy hay it gets everywhere but what can I expect he's only 2. But for a 2 yr old I am very impressed at how well he cares not just for her but attempts to help with the birds. I had to resize and half the bottom photo so it looks kinda bad sorry..If only I could get him to clean her cage I'd be in heaven!

My grandkids watch some weird stuff. The weirdest thing they watch is "Yo Gabba Gabba!" That has got to be one of the craziest things I have ever seen! Horrible looking characters and a guy in an orange outfit running around like a dingbat! Geez, what ever happened to good ol' shows like Captain Kangaroo and Tom and Jerry and Mighty Mouse? I watched all of those and I am not maladjusted.

Hey everyone :)I'm back home now My family and I went to NY for a week. We were supposed to come home yesterday, but because of weather up there, and a complication with the van(both headlights went out, and we're frozen in place. We couldn't get them out, so had to go to a mechanic on saturday), we couldn't leave until this morning. I wasn't able to get on here or BC as we couldn't get my grandmother's network thing going...and couldnt connect to the internet from my computer...plus, all my cousins were there most of the week...and it was just chaotic, and busy, and fun haha. Didn't have much time to get on the net at all.

Just wanted to post and let you guys know that I'm home, and haven't forgotten bout the site! Took lots of pics! We got 8 inches of snow while we were there. Was only supposed to get 3! hehe

Fish Tanks

I was curious who else on the forum keeps fish. While in New York this week we ended up bringing home my boyfriend's old 20 gallon tank and decided to set up an aquarium. I have done this before in the past, but its been several years since I kept fish.

Does anyone one have any photos or suggestions to share? It is sitting empty in our living room as we speak. We bought all the basics today that were missing from the tank, but we can't decide on what type of fish we want to do.

I also have thought about doing a poison dart frog tank (saw a really cool one at the store today) and may do that as well in the coming week. New hobbies are so much fun!!!

Hey everyone, I made it home safely from New York last night, we ended up staying an extra day. I hope everyone had a great Christmas, and I plan on logging on later today and reading all the great posts that I missed in my absence.

I had alot of fun snowmobiling (my first time) and messing around on my boyfriend's cousin's horse farm. I have never seen so much snow in one place!!! When we got there the heat in our hotel room did not work (major ice storm passed through the week before we got there), so I spent the first night under a mound of blankets and vowed that although it is beautiful, I do not want to live up North!!

I am most disappointed by the number of posts that have had to be removed or closed in the last couple of days, plus by the continued scrutinizing of other members on this forum. Please treat each other with respect and keep your discussions about birds, please.

I feel like I must re-state from one of my last posts: Don't think that just because you "didn't start it" that you are not to blame. All those who participate are held accountable. If it seems like an argument, avoid it and contact the moderators. If you think someone is acting stupid, ignore the person. Fighting back, ganging up on to defend someone, and trying to plead and ask people to be nice and not rude – as noble as it may seem – these actions do not help the issue. It’s only adding fuel to the fire.

Do Not take the time to write a post to call members out and tell them their flaws. Imagine what a new forum member would think from reading a post like that. From now on this will result in a strike against your account. And you only get two strikes on this Forum before your account is removed.

This Forum is What YOU Make it to be. If you attack each other, are rude and mean to each other, and work against each other instead of ignoring the issue and reporting it or trying to see the real information past the rudeness then that is what this Forum will be.

You ARE going to have different opinions from time to time. You may even have different opinions all the time, but the manner in which you communicate your opinion matters.

A larger cage would provide him with more opportunities to climb, fly and explore. You’ll be giving him the chance to be active, happier and live a longer and more enjoyable life. Both replies have said the same thing, but in decidedly different ways. Which would you hope to receive?

Well I came home yesterday to find out we had a flood in our basement! Thinking a few inches I went down to see about 2 1/2 feet! I called my dad first since they just went through the same thing and then called the landlord. They put a call out to a plumber and in the meantime we loaded out BUCKETS of water. There wasn't anyone who could come out so our landlord went to get a pump and by 11pm had most of the water out. The good thing....was about 50 degrees out so it was still very warm in the house and we put a space heater in the bird room. The plumber is supposed to be here today to take a look at things and at the furnace. No more water down there this morning! but all that was down there is lost! All my Christmas stuff, comp stuff and who knows what else. The clean up will take me forever. I just hope we will have heat and hot water by the end of today. Supposed to be warm today but tomorrow snow and rain. I am not worried about what I lost, that is until I get down there. Our landlord offered to move us, the dog and fids into their house or put us up in a hotel last night, it wasn't necessary as it was very warm still. As long as we are all fine here upstairs I will be happy, but when I go down to the basement I am sure I will be devistated!

I use to be on there a long long time ago and I left cause no one would answer any of my questions andI just felt like no one there liked new members so I left

well I rejoind a couple of days ago and again I felt the same way No welcome backs no nothing

And I am just soo happy this forum that we are all nice to new members and make them feel welcomed to out board...so lets all remember when we see a new member please be welcoming to them I think its very important to add new members to our flock so we can always help any one with questions and maybe even learn from the new people

this is a great place to share stories and help with problems and what ever else we could do to help people

Guess what I have doing for the past hour+? Trying to make a scrapblog. I'd get to a certain point and could go no further. I just am not able to do this on this computer, I'd get to a certain thing, example I got my photos or background, and could not get back to where I think I needed to be. Oh, woe is me! Is it me?I have tried and tried. It is so sad when someone can't even make their own siggie. I just can't fool with it any more tonight.

Please tell me it isnt so Ive never been allergic to any animals ever. And the lie I told my husband and step daughter about being allergic to cats was wrong I know but I cant stand cats so I had to find a reason other then "i dont want one" in order to prevent those things from coming into my home! Anyhow anytime I hold Noel (9 outta 10 times anyway) after I put her up my eyes will burn like I have pink eye and my nose will run and my chin where she cuddles will itch! I dont want to get rid of her she is just a super sweet piggy!

I am truly not trying to be negative, but I only get the "holiday spirit" after the fact. I think it is because I work in a retail environment [grocery store] and the tension there before a holiday can be so thick you could almost cut it with a knife! I only started feeling better about this last night. If I lived by myself, I would probably postpone my big holiday things till afterwards. Does anyone else ever feel like this? Or am I just a Grinch? Not trying to sound nasty, but had to get it off my chest!

I got stuck in the snow

So on the way back from doing grocery shopping after 8 inches of new snow fall I get stuck. I do the backing up thing the rocking thing you all that live in the north might know what I mean by all this. I learned it all in the last 2 winters Ive been here. Well that didnt work so I call my husband who comes down on his new ATV (why he left his 4x4 at home I dont know) but he claims it was a "nice night" and he doubted "I was really stuck" so for 30 minutes he to tries to get me out then decides he will go and get a snow shovel. The snow was honest to goodness half way up the door on the passengerside and I drive an SUV! So he leaves and says "I'll be back" and I smile and look at him and say "Hey we will be here" which he didnt find humor in but my step daughter and I do. It takes him a while to come back us thinking he was brining his 4x4 to yank me out but oh no he was taking so long because he was getting his "winter clothes" on! So he shovels and shovels and he gets in and we do that rocking thing and somehow Im not sure how it actually happened I ended up getting out of the vehicle and he jumps in and says "Baby when I back up and start rocking forward push me" I was like "What the heck Im the girl" so he rolls down the window and yells BABY PUSH so I run up behind the vehicle and push and out he goes the trail is all rutted up and Im sure someone else will end up being stuck there. But it gets better he kept going! Didnt stop to let me back in the warm car to drive the rest of the way and I didnt have on my silly furry hat or gloves or even snow boots on and I ended up riding that darn ATV back to the house and him saying "I hope someone else gets stuck there now"

Had to share from start to end it was over 30 minutes of being stuck in a snow bank with the snow half way up the passenger side doors

What is your favorite Christmas Cookie?

Last week my Grandma, mom, and I spent a day and a half making our Christmas cookies. We make about 6 different kinds, but two of them are my favorite. The recipes were all from my Great-grandmother, so they are special to me that way, but boy they are good

My favorite one is called a Chew, it has a light cookie crust and then it has a layer of soft chewy cookie that has brown sugar, pecan chips and shredded coconut, plus a couple of other things. After they cool we sprinkle them with a little powdered sugar with green and red sugar crystals in it to make it festive and then cut them in to 1 inch squares. My second favorite is called a philadelphia cream cheese cookie. It has basically a sugar cookie dough with cream cheese in it. We roll them into balls coat them in egg whites then roll them in pecan chips and then bake them, ooh those are really good too. I'm making myself hungry.

Well they are calling for more snow today! Right now I see sun, the wind chill is bitter and I have a huge mound of snow in my drive way near the garage. I'm not sure why they did not plow up near it or on the side! I had to shovel this am and when I got home, my chiropractor will scold me for sure. My legs haven't warmed up yet!
To top that off dad may get stuck at work because of the call ins. Hopefully things will look up.

One of my doxies, Fritz, will be 13 at the end of April. A couple years ago he had a stroke [that's what the vet thinks] . He recovered, but now he seems to be going down again. He actually takes a "baby" aspirin daily, under vet's advice, to keep him from having another. I am calling the vet in the morning. No time is a good time for something like this, but I'm low on funds, but he'll have to go, of course. Thank God I'm off tomorrow, as my work would rather me have a dead dog than for me to miss work. If I wasn't off, I'd have to lie and say I was sick. I know that eventually I might have to make a decision if he can't be helped.

I am sick to my stomach and just about as mad as can be.

So, we have our house done up in these blue L.E.D lights, they're beautiful, and we keep them on all the time (L.E.D.'s barely any energy use at all!).

Well, last week, one string on our mailbox dissapeared. It had been stolen, and we were like 'bummer' but we figured it was just some kids playing a prank. No big deal. My dad then put zip ties connecting all the wires together, and some sensors that would set off a tone in the house to tell us if anyone was out there.

We thought we were good until Wednesday morning. We woke up and FOUR (yes FOUR) strings of lights were gone off of our row of trees. We saw footprints... it looked a like one guy. Usually kids would do something like that in groups... now we're mad.

So, my dad put up MORE sensors, and some cameras. And now, just last night at 10pm, we were all in the house, lights on -you could see that we were come. I heard the motion sensors go off. I peeked out the window and saw a car driving by a little slowely -I figured it was nothing, as the cars are usually doing that because the road is covered in snow pack, and people like to drive by slowely to stare at our lights.
So, I figured it was just the car tripping the sensors, and I went back and resumed playing HL2. I heard it again. I started towards the window to peek again, and I hear my mom in the bedroom screaming "He's out there, he's taking the lights, go out there, get dad!"

I was just a few steps to the window, so I looked out, and I saw a tall young guy, in a black hoodie turn towards the house and take off running. So I ran out the front door and screamed at him. He was already gone by the time we could get out there....

So bold... it was only 10 pm.... 10 pm! The lights were on in the house. We were obviously there! I am just so sick about this. What kind of person does these things? Risks criminal charges for strings of $7 lights???

This doesn't help any in my family's peace of mind either, since our house was burgled 2 years ago... cars stolen, ect. All while we were away. And now this guy steals our Christmas lights while we're home?

I'm sorry... I just had to rant... I'm so upset about this...

What does a Scientific engineer for Nasa do?..lol

Ok Can somebody tell me what the heck is involved with scientific engineering? Somebody I know has an interview with one from Nasa for some "Idea" they have and apparently its a hit..because they are flying him from WI to California for 2 weeks to go over the plans for this..who knows what. LOL I really have no idea what hes talking about...so I though somebody here might be able to fill me in on what scientific engineering is...?
