I have decided to make one thread for me to post all my artwork in so I don't spam the Non-Bird Talk section with all my art. If I tried to post all of the art I wanted to share in their own threads, it would take up the whole Recent Posts section. lol!

Here is a painting of a orange winged amazing named Jenny Lynn. I call the painting "Beautiful Jenny Lynn". I made this for a friend as a thank you for the awesome toys he made for my fids. 8x10 canvas in acrylic paint. I had fun painting this, Jenny's happy eyes and sweet smile made her super fun to paint! The only thing I am upset about is my M.C. I hate where I put it and how it looks.:( I should have put it under the branch.

I am back =) sometimes I get bad bouts of carpal tunnel in my right hand. Sierra only lets me hold her on my right hand which you can imagine poses kind of a problem with a heavy bird. So i kind of took a break and then got use to not being online. So my wrist has been doing good for a couple of months and i was like well i miss the bird channel friends so here i am!

Hi all! I saw WeasleyLover posting art, and as a fellow artist I thought I would post a few pictures of my bird-centered art too. :)
I am a traditional artist (never got along well with computers when it came to art), and my favorite media to work in is watercolor or gouache. I have been making art my entire life, and I am (a couple weeks away from turning) 21 now, so I've had a bit of practice.
Of course my fids are one of my favorite subjects!

heartbroken over macaw

i am in a really tough situation and i need help.i have been on12hr midnight shifts for 8 months(not by choice)and my blue and gold gypsy is in her cage at night while at work and day while i attempt to sleep.she has an extremely large cage and lots of toys and her own tv,but she has taken to featherpicking.i can tell she isnt getting enough rest,and i cant keep her on a normal schedule cause of work.during the week i cover her at 7pm,get her up at 7am,feed her breakfast on the playstand,then back to the cage so i can goto sleep.on weekends she is up later but i am so out of whack from working 3rd shift that i get up in the morning to uncover her then im back in bed.more cagetime,more plucking.i have had her since birth and it breaks my heart to think of rehoming her after 7 years,but a local rescue told me of 2 people looking for a macaw.both have been screened and have macaw experience.one owns a harlaquin,the other just lost their b and g after 45 years.i love her so much,and want to do whats best for her,am i being selfish keeping her here?i dont want her plucking to turn into mutilation.please help!

This is a painting of me and my favorite too'. It took me about 10 hours with breaks in between. Please ignore how terrible I look, humans are my weakness! It does look better than some of my other humans though....I think the worst thing is that the lips are a bit high. I'm very happy with Sammy, he looks just like I wanted him to! :D

Grooming Macaws

While I was searching for macaw pictures, I came across a adorable picture of a scarlet and blue & gold macaw preening. It inspired me to do a painting.

I am very happy with this. The only thing I don't like is how big the scarlet looks compared to the blue & gold. I messed up the size a bit.

(Note: There is supposed to be red on the B&G's beak. The red is feathers from the scarlet.)

I really enjoyed painting a bird in flight, I've never done that before! I just started another painting, it's of an owl in flight. It is on a huge canvas, so it might take me a while, but I will post it when I'm done! :)

On monday my boyfriend and I were looking at dogs up for adoption and we found this little 4 month old white mini poodle, on tuesday we went and adopted him and wendesday the shealter had him fixed and we got him that evening he is such a good little dog and already potty trained, I miss my cat sooo much but Ive found the perfect baby the birds arent very happy rocky has dive bombed the puppy a couple times but he is getting better Oh ya we named him harley

CBS News) As fears of the Ebola virus spread through Uganda, health officials are bracing the country's capital city, Kampala, for a possible outbreak.

On Saturday, Ugandan Ministry of Health officials and the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that 14 people had died from the Ebola virus. A spokesperson for the WHO told NPR that thirty-six people are confirmed to have recently had the disease.

Which airports are more likely to spread contagion?

While the infected have resided in Kibaale - a district west of the capitol - one of the patients traveled from the area to a Kampala hospital, where he later died. The densely-populated city has a population of 1.5 million, according to AFP. No one has contracted the virus yet in Kampala, but because one of the sick was in the city, there are fears they could have spread the virus. While precautions are being taken such as radio announcements and posters alerting people to take care, the fact that there are so many highly-trafficked markets and crowded slums in the area makes it challenging to get the word out.

According to the WHO, the Ebola virus has five different species: Zaire, Sudan, Cote d'Ivoire, Bundibugyo and Reston. Zaire, Sudan and Bundibugyo have been known to cause large Ebola haemorrhagic fever (EHF) outbreaks in Africa, which has a fatality ratio of 25 to 90 percent of the people infected.

The specific strain that is affecting Uganda right now is the Sudan version, which has had five outbreaks in Africa since 1976, NPR reported. It kills about 50 percent of the infected. One of the latest outbreaks was in 2000, in which 224 Ugandan residents died.

Typically, the Ebola virus is transmitted through direct contact with blood, secretions, organs or other body fluids of infected people, the WHO said. Burial ceremonies in which live people have contact with the recently deceased infected or health care workers who aid in the treatment of Ebola victims are often at risk. Symptoms include intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat. Vomiting, diarrhea, rash, impaired kidney and liver function, and in some cases, both internal and external bleeding are also observed.

President Yoweri Museveni on Monday that citizens should take precautions to guard themselves against the disease.

"Ebola spreads by contact," he said in a statement. "When you contact each other physically then Ebola spreads through sweat, through saliva in case you kiss, blood (exchange of blood) vomiting in case you touch the vomit of somebody who is sick or diarrhea, urine, sexual fluids etc all those transmit Ebola. Fortunately it seems Ebola does not spread through air (through breathing) it spreads through contact." [sic]

The seven doctors who treated the patient in Kampala as well as 13 health workers who made the journey with them from Kibaale are currently under quarantine. A typical quarantine involves isolation for 21 days, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention spokesman Tom Skinner told NPR. After two 21-day periods where no one falls ill, the outbreak is considered to be over. The CDC, WHO and Uganda's Ministry of Health are working together to figure out how many people are possibly infected and to control the disease.

As for the disease spreading to other countries, CNN points out that it's highly unlikely for it to reach the United States. The only known outbreak in the U.S. was when monkeys were imported, which resulted in no human cases, and when two tourists traveling in Uganda were infected and traveled to the U.S. No one else was infected because of precautions taken.

What type of plane...?

I'm looking for an unexpensive plane that is easy to be flown alone. I'm not ready to buy it yet. I'm just looking for advice. What would be the best type of plane for my need? I'm going a long distance with it and I want to keep it after I get there, so I need something that's safe and will last a long time.

my cat has been really sick not being able to walk on her back legs I took her to the vet last nite and her throid has gotten bad, he gave me prescriptoin food and Im kind of babing her big time I am still around checking on everyone but if u dont hear from me Im just having a really hard time

Hey, guys, just thought I'd drop by and say "Hello"!

I haven't posted here in so long!

I'll have to say this year, 2012, has not been kind. I lost a cousin a few months back. Unexpected. He was a good man.

Our family has also lost some animal friends this year. We lost three of our dogs in January, and in March, I lost my cockatiel, Pearly. I also lost three baby budgies, the first and last I hope. It was very upsetting, as you all can imagine!

Then one of my female budgies, Victoria, decided she would pluck all the feathers from her chest and belly! They are finally coming back, if she will let them.

So anyway, I came on and saw I had a lot of PM's. Stange I thought, as I haven't posted in months! Apparently a spammer. So I decided to go on and clear out my messages, and they just won't go away! Obviously, I still know as little about computers as I did when I joined in 2008!

My son has seen, up close and uncomfortable, more bears in 10 of his 27 years than I have in my entire 60.
He just got back from Alaska and told me that although he looked really hard, he could NOT see Russia from any ones porch...but he did see grizzly bears all over the place. Not that there are too many of them. But they do like to hang out near places where a quick meal can be had.
he was at an Army post up there that was not particularly big and several times the bears could be seen at dawn and dusk ( which, at this time of year, are the same) snooping around the mess hall looking for a dropped Twinky or cheese on rye. They were usually sows and year old cubs and if you accidently got between them, you better find a way to NOT be there.
While being a YMCA camp counsellor in Wisconsin, He nearly hit a black bear with his bike as her rounded a bend coming down a hill in a National Forest. It was snuffling up the spill from a Coke can a few feet away. He said that he was trying to remember if you play dead with black bears or act loud and slowly moved his hand to the pepper spray he kept on him. But he was down wind of the bear and from beyond there, the smell of someone cooking, so he got to watch the bear waddle away. H e has had three other close bear contacts in his life, that he has TOLD me of, in areas that were actually relatively well populated. He is either very lucky or unlucky.
So, as the July and August camping season gets under way here, remember
"Don't go out in the woods today. It's better to stay at home.
If you go out in the woods today, you better not go alone.
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic".
..and I wouldn't like it to be you at the picnic.

Including a link (more properly called a hyperlink) in a post so that other members or visitors may click on the link and go to the new site is a simple procedure.

Let's say I wanted to provide a link to the home page of the BirdChannel web site. I would copy and paste the site's URL:

Doing this does not make it a link. To make it a link, after pasting the URL highlight it. Then, to the left of the message box you will see a box labeled "IFCode Shortcuts". In this box click "[url][/url]" and you will make a clickable link in your post similar to the link below:

http://www.birdchannel.com/

I hope this will help members provide usable links in their posts.

There are two other methods to create a link, but I prefer this method because it works on all operating systems and opens the linked site in a new window instead of replacing the previous site with the new site in the same window.

So, I'm sure a lot of you may be wondering what I've been up to! Aside from being in and out of hospital, I have really become in love with fostering. Over the summer I fostered many orphaned kittens that needed to be bottle fed, but my proudest fosters when the 6 little souls came into my home.

In December I got a phone call from one of the two rescues in my area about a family who had Great Pyrenees dogs, flock gaurdians used to protect sheep. The had a litter of puppies born in the barn, and sadly the mother and 5 of 11 puppies did not make the night. I went out within the hour and picked up 6 TINY little 3 day old puppies. Talk about a job! They were so much work to raise, being fed aroudn the clock every 2 hours for the first 2 weeks or so. thankfully my classmates helped me out a lot and my teachers were very understanding (it's a good thing I'm in the animal field!) and were very happy to let me bring my babies to class. One of my teachers actually insisted that if they got hungry the whole class helped out and I was to take a break!

They have since gone to their new homes and I am so happy to hear that all 6 are doing great! I get to see 2 of my puppies regularly, one of which I saw today after nearly a month appart. He is getting so big, at a whopping 32 lbs and still growing.

I thought you all might like to hear about the awsome-ness that is fostering <3

Clumbsy me feel last nite getting up off the couch fell and at first I was scarred I broke it, but its just a sprain and all swollen so I have been keeping it up all day on the heating pad, Rocky has been so excited sitting on my ankle he's such a sweet little guy I just love him

Smuggled Animals

I've watched programs on TV about birds and other animals being taken from their native homes and trafficked in the pet trade. I know that the numbers of birds in particular are dropping in the wild. What TV programs or books have you seen or read about this topic? I know that there are organizations out there that are trying to educate people that they can profit more from tourism than from selling the animals in question. In your opinion, what else can be done to stop birds and other animals from being sold for pets or killed for skins or body parts?
