I've got a cage that's 30 inches wide. I've got a variety of other perches in there, but I want to replace the plain-old vanilla perches with new ones just like them.
I know I could put them the short way, but I like the cage setup the way it is now. My problem is, I can't find any 30" perches!
I'm sure some knowledgeable board reader will know where I can buy some!

New idea in birdcage liners

I have an entrepeneur friend who has come to me for feedback on an idea. She wants to make birdcage liners that are aerial photo views of places. Like a park setting, looking down on a lawn with flowers, cities from above, things like that. They would be made of post consumer recycled newspaper, and use soy inks. So they would be bird safe. She realizes that newspaper is free, but thinks its boring. For both us and our birds. I said I had the perfect audience to try the idea out on. What do you guys think? Would you buy them? Thanks for your input.

Bird Bath Spray

I went to the pet shop today looking for some natural bird spray/conditioner. I found only the 8in1 brand. They have an old formulation and a new formulation. Well, in the new formulation I found "Urea", which is urine! Okay, who wants to put pee on their birds?? Probably nobody. It is not in the old formulation. Guess I won't be buying that brand!!. Everyone gathers together and brings their birds for three hours of fun. This past Sunday we got together as usual. Flighted birds arrive on harnesses. The most popular of these harnesses is the "Aviator" which allows the bird to have limited flight at the end of an elastic like leash.

What I witnessed Sunday was disturbing. One club member had his African Gray separate his harness at an attachment point. The harness uses an adhesive at one point to connect two straps together. According to Joe, he's had lots of problems with this adhesive connection. Joe has 16 parrots and they love going places.

Another club member brought his Scarlett Macaw to the club on a harness. During the first hour there they took advantage of the open area of the park to allow O'Hara to fly. It's a beautiful thing to watch a macaw in flight, even at the end of a leash. However, less than an hour later O'Hara crashed just after takeoff when his harness failed. O'Hara received a small scratch near his eye. It was shortly after this that I discovered that a harness strap was either broken or chewed through. The harness was brand new.

I own "Feather Tether" harnesses and the materials used are good quality compared to those that I see used in the "Aviator" harnesses. The "Aviator" design is obviously superior for flight. But, I think that we need to demand better quality from the folks at "Aviator". We buy these harnesses to keep our birds safe. I don't think that the "Aviator" is doing the job very well.

Air Purifier

I have an African Grey and just added a Military Macaw - from other posts on here - it appears I should have a Air Purifer - as Grey's are very danderly.

The room is 10 ft. JWR is a bad business and not consumer friendly

If you are subscribe to Bird Talk magazine you have probably already seen the one page advertisement for JWR Air Purifier and Humidifier systems and might be contemplating to purchase one. I like to warn you about Jeff the owner of the company does not give you quotes on the total amount (product, shipping, and "insurance") when you make an order. Another thing is that if you order one of their products during a "special sale" that is suppose to come with free extras, they do not ship everything together as a bundle. I order the JWR Rain Forest Germicidal Warm Mist Air Humidifier in mid November in 2010 a week before the Thanks Giving Holiday which during that time JWR was having a Thanks Giving sale of order a humidifier and get two free UV replacement bulbs. When I ordered it, Jeff himself told me the price was only 199.75 and I also mention it to him that I am a Bird Talk subscriber because subscriber get a 10% discount. Well later that day after making the order I look at my bank account on-line and find out he was charging me $258.75. I called him to find out why the price wasn't what he stated it to be and if he already included the 10% discount. He told me and I quote "Do you how much insurance on your package cost shipping from Chicago to California?" Yeah. I was will to accept that and than the amount change to 238.75 and he include another free UV bulbs. When I received my package non of the UV bulbs came with the humidifier and so I called him again. He told me that they send them every six months. Its been eight months now and I just noticed an unauthorized charge of 49.75 to my checking account yesterday 7-25-2011 and called him again to find out why. He said that the charge was for the 3 UV bulbs that I just purchased? I told him that I never made the purchase and that I was suppose to received 3 Free replacement UV bulbs. He sounded very understanding but than changed the subject and asked me if how was the humidifier holding up and that they have been trying to create a cleaning solution to remove the hard mineral deposit. Telling me ACE has a great product that works well and than apologize and said he will correct the charge. I even asked him if he is going to charge me. He told me no. Today is 7-26-2011 and the 49.75 been charge to my account. Bad Business.

Here is a link to others like my situation.

http://www.preciouspetstores.com/Profile/2587/

http://www.ripoffreport.com/question...s-je-cca8a.htm

Sprouting: How Long to Rinse in Apple Cider Vinegar

I was going to try using apple cider vinegar in the sprouting process for the first time, and couldn't find one good source on the web that explains exactly how long to rinse with a.c.v. So, since I know there are some expert sprouters here - I decided to turn to you!

I am sprouting lentils and mung beans this time. I usually soak for 24 hours, rinsing every few hours for the first 12 hours and then leaving overnight to soak. Then in the morning I give it a final rinse, and then let them sit on moist coffee filter, that I re-moist when needed, until the tails are ~1/4" long. This time I finally remembered to get some apple cider vinegar, so I was going to put a bit (~1Tbs) if it in the last soak. But, I am not sure if I should leave it for just a few minutes or couple of hours before the final rinse.

So, experts, please advise. :)

New Online Bird Store

I have a friend who has opened a online bird store and she also breeds Greys and Eclectus Parrots , we are adopting a baby girl eckie from her :) she is 5 weeks old so it will be awhile before she comes home , I will post some pics when she sends me some , the final decission to get a baby girl was made today :)

heres her store site........http://www.allparrotproducts.com/

heres her breeders page ....http://www.sweetgreys.com/

My Safe Bird Store

Now this place i just have to share with all you fellow bird people. They say pretty much every toy or food is flat out poison and I'm KILLING my bird and there is nothing I can do, reading the label won't work, going to a reputable bird store won't work, nothing. Then there is a list of different chemicals and why they're put into what and what the effects on birds are. The effects are like "seizures, feather plucking and DEATH! Nausea, vomiting, this and that, and DEATH!" Death is always in capitals. And then it ends with telling you to sign up for whatever TODAY, so you can pay whatever to get some stuff every month like toys or food. I believe that some of what they say is true to a certain extant, but I don't think it's as urgent as they say. They always end each letter with what you can buy from them and why you have to RIGHT AWAY. What do y'all think about it?

Oven Fresh Bites

Bought Chirpy Oven Fresh Bites and she loves it. Any suggestions?

Bird toy Supplies

As a poor college student I have become pretty crafty at making bird toys, not in the sence that I"m preticularly reative but that I've become really good at seeing bird toys in random things.

My first toy making base I like are hula-hoops! I use all the sizes to make toys. The thing is though, hula-hoops arn't good all by themselves, I use Vet wrap to wrap the hoops so that the birds can grip onto it. It's great stuff, especially because if the bird decide to rip pieces off I can just wrap over the spots and it's good as new! I have also used cheap yoga mats underneith the Vet wrap to make the hoops a bit bigger for Goonie.

My favorite store: the dollarama (or any dollar store!) I get hula-hoops, wooden beads, cat toys with bells, willow decor balls, string to tie stuff, baby toys, cotton mop heads, and so much more! When Christmas toys come out I look for shinny tree ornaments that are bird safe. Paper bags, shredded paper, coin rollers, wiffle balls, the list goes on and on. If anyone out there is looking for good bases for toys, I find that dog choke collars work great! I cut a ring off of one side and pack them with wood, willow balls, and anything else I can find! The best part is that they can be used for years and come in lots of sizes.

An other good place to look for toys is at the thrift store. I have been able to get baby toys there, and if I'm lucky I get fleese sweaters, wash them out really well and cut them up for toys.

An other good place to looki is flea markets. We have one just up the street and they sell everything from baby toys to cotton rope by the foot, buttons, beads, you name it!

Does anyone else have good toy part stores?

My Top 6 Favorite Birdie finds for March

1. My Sister gave me this fruit & Veggie Keeper I haven't tried this out on veggies yet but i want more. They stack and they made an apple stay crisp for two weeks! Right now i am using it on Pear usually pears only seem to last 3 days (give or take) after sliced. So Far this pear looks way more fresh than it would in stored in tupper-ware. Only draw back is that i think this item is hand wash only, but i totally love this product.
http://www.norpro.com/store/products/fruitvegetable-keeper (copy paste link)

2. Nature's Benefits for Conures & Parrots. I got mine at Petco for only 10.00 but Petco doesn't sell it online. This food in my opinion is one of the best mixes i have ever tried. Really, i think it is the best. All three of my birds went nuts over this (even Sam which is saying a whole lot he chucks 90% of anything that is not homemade or fresh. I use this for a treat though not a diet. I like it because out of the 10 parrots that my family owns, this does not have that unwanted dried corn that none of our birds like. In my mind that corn is filler and this mix not over loaded with seed either. It has nice Granola bites in the mix. It also is available for smaller birds.
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=22398

3. Is a re-arranged living room with a T-stand in front of the window sitting between a couch & chair. I love this and so do the birds. I think they feel more protected and can look outside.

4. This really nicely priced cage from pet-co I got this for my Caique. Anyone who knows Caique's know they need lots of space, they have a ton of energy!!! I think this cage is a really good cage for other species of birds also. I love the color too.
http://www.petco.com/product/114150/Petco-Designer-Mink-Brown-Standing-Parrot-Cage.aspx?CoreCat=certona-_-ProductListTopRated_Bird_4-_-Petco%20Designer%20Mink%20Brown%20Standing%20Parrot%20Cage-114150

5 & 6 and lastly these two adorable toys Purchased @ Great Companions.com
Foraging basket for Red Bellied parrot, Sam
http://www.greatcompanions.com/Foraging-Basket-Bird-Toy-GC.html
For Black headed Caique, Daisy- a Sunflower Delight toy
http://www.greatcompanions.com/Sunflower-Delight-Bird-Toy-GC.html

Happy March

Birdie bites Sample

Someone was talking on here about the oven fresh birdie bites and how good they were. I'm particularly interested in double cages with removable dividers. I was researching HQ cages. Any opinions on the durability and safety of the cage? I've also been researching A&E Cages & King Cages. Any reviews, testimonials, information, or suggestions would be helpful.

new idea for mini ice cream cone and avi-cakes

Ok...You know you have an "issue" when every time you are in a store shopping...you are constantly looking for new ideas to help keep your birds entertained...lol

Well I found these "mini" ice cream cones at Target for under $2.00 for a box of 60

I decided to buy them and try filling them with Lafeber's Avi-Cakes as the Avi-Cakes are easy to shape.

As you can see from the pictures below...they are perfect!!!! size for Izzy to grab onto and she LOVES!!! them...it was a huge success and so very cheap and easy to do..so I thought I would share the idea. When I product shipped I was never notified and I had to email them to be given a tracking number two days after my order had shipped. Around the same time I check my bank account and notice that the charge for my order completely disappeared. When I received my order I checked again my account and there was no charge for my order. I had to email the company again to find out what is going on and still have not received a reply but the charge finally appeared on my account and it left me pretty angry. Again no reply from the company yet. And when your browsing online avoid Everything Birds at www.bird-cage.com, should not happen to no one.

Baked Birdie Munchies

After Chirpy tried the Caitec's Oven Fresh Bites I decided to buy another product in that line called Baked Birdie Munchies:

<a href="http://www.ovenfreshbites.com/munchingredients.html" target=_"blank" class="SmlLinks">http://www.ovenfreshbites.com/munchingredients.html

Chirpy likes them too. Currently, I have a 5 year old Toshiba with 4 keys missing and a few that stick. This laptop has been through seeds jammed in the keyboard, poop, a few berry stains... you know, the usual many-flock household stuff that happens.

My main requirements are the following:
--Minimum 4 GB RAM (standard these days, apparently)
--Keys that don't come up so easily (I have conures, too...)
--NO Apple brands

A 10-key would be nice but not necessarily a requirement as Logitech sells a 10-key that can plug into the USB.

As far as brand goes, I was looking at some Dells at Best Buy (the closest thing we have to a savvy technology store now that Circuit City has gone out of business) and of course some Toshibas.

Thank you!

Wild Harvest Multi-Drops

Hello!

Although I usually purchase pet supplies at Petland, today I had to buy bird food from Wal-Mart. (The details don't really matter)

I was worried that the Wal-Mart food wouldn't be as high-quality as the actual pet store variety, (and the pet store variety seed mix isn't very nutritional in the first place!) so I also bought some Premium-brand Multi-Drop Vitamin Supplements.

One of my primary concerns about this product is whether or not it is actually effective. (It's Wal-Mart, you never know!) So I did a little looking around, and found no evidence to the contrary.

Anyway, so the instructions require me to put a drop of the stuff in for every fluid ounce of water in the birds' water dishes. (By the way, the birds in question are two budgies and a Green Cheek Conure, all three of which are absolutely adorable and precious :D)

But the thing is, all of my birds adore taking baths in their water dishes. Although they don't submerge their heads in the water, I want to be absolutely sure that the vitamins won't be harmful to them.

Here are the ingredients of the product:

Water, Polysorbate 80, Glycerin, Vitamin A Palmitate, Niacinamide, Choline Chloride, Cholecalciferol (Source Of Vitamin D3), D-Pantothenyl Alcohol, Riboflavin-5'-Phospahte, Pyridoxine Hydrchloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Potassium Sorbate (A Preservative).

And yes, I'm aware that the very best way to ensure nutrition for my birds is to feed them a variety of foods. I always make sure to keep my bird's diets as varied as possible and to give them fruits and veggies whenever possible. (But although my GCC adores just about everything I stick in front of his cute little face, my parakeets are a whole lot more reserved. They'll eat fruit, but they won't touch greens.)

But back to the vitamins, does anyone have any comments or suggestions? If any of you have personal experience with these kinds of supplements, that would be very helpful!

Thanks!

OMG a bird killer product! please read immediatly

My best friends blue cockatiel ,sapphire died yesterday because a cozy buddy killed her! my friend Katie keeps her birds in a seperate bird room, she has 3 a cockatiel, a blue cockatiel and a budgie, having the room gives them room to fly during outside of cage time. but at night you cant hear them, katie got a cozy buddy a couple days ago because sapphire was having trouble sleeping, so yesterday night she left the cozy buddy in the cage. sapphire got up out of the cozy buddy but her foot was caught, both her tonails and band was caught up in the material she started to taking off and she fell hanging upside down, she was hanging so long that all the blood went to her head, she died. sapphire was found dead in the morning in the same position of death, and thats when katie came to the conclusion of what had happened to sapphire. so i thought that i should tell everybody as a warning about cozy buddies, only use with supervision, i know its a sad story and she was on the phone with me crying for hours. i appologise if i scared anyone. mourning for sapphire.....rip
