Internet Explorer Errors while on BC? Slow Internet Explorer?

If you are running Internet Explorer and keep getting errors while on the forum, there's a few things you can try.

Delete Cookies and History.
Try to view the forum again.
If you are still having errors, try deleting Temporary Internet Files.
Make sure your computer is up to date (Windows Update).
If you are still having issues, try the next step.

Go to Tools, Internet Options, Security tab. Make sure the security zone is set to default.
Go to the Advanced tab, then Reset Internet Explorer Settings. Click on the Reset Button.
Check-mark the box to Delete Personal Settings. Click on Reset.
Restart your Internet Explorer Browser.

This is for IE8, so the directions/steps may be different for IE7 or IE6 for any of those of you who may use the older IE browsers.

I don't know of any other steps someone may try to get rid of the Errors (minus a system restore) or getting rid of a very slow Internet Explorer (pages take *FOREVER* to load, but they load fine in other browsers). I kept getting "Out of Memory at Line 1" while on IE at my computer, but at no others, for months! (over 6 months?). I Googled and followed all directions (minus a system restore, as I had no restore points to restore the system back to) and couldn't fix the issue. I then started using other computers to view Bird Channel, or if those were not available, using Google Chrome (I only like to view BC in IE since it is most compatible with that browser). I was finally told by my computer technician of a mother to try "Step Two" in that specific way and it fixed the issue! (keeping in mind, I've asked her this a few times before, and she didn't know how to fix the issue... )

She showed me the steps, while doing it on her own computer (her IE all of a sudden became extremely slow so she was using Firefox instead), and it solved her issues, too!

So although I never left, I'm glad to be "back"!!!!

Contests

I am part of the small animal channel eclub and forum. On that page they are always having contests. One they do monthly is a pic contest.. The prize is usually just points.

Is that something the bird channel can do as a continual contest to earn more points?

You could also do themed contests for points as well. Thanksgiving and Christmas are but a couple coming up.

Anyway I love contests and love prizes but points work too.

Just and idea to get more activity on this site and see more pics of people's beautiful birds.

Ease of browsing

I'm new around here, but (or maybe so) I've noticed a couple things that would make i easier to browse through to forum.

1- put a line break between people's post and their signature, so that you can easily tell where one ends and the other starts. With many signatures, it is pretty obvious, but not all of them.

2- limit the number of pinned topics. In many of the forums, you have to scroll down quite a ways to get to the new topics. This is especially bothersome when I am using my netbook with its tiny screen. If a forum moderator has the time, I would appreciate -- and I think it would make things look a lot cleaner -- if they went through and unpinned any outdated topics, and anything that does not absolutely need to be "front and center"

Thanks for listening! I enjoy reading through this forum--I'm finding lots of useful and just plain interesting info and stories :)

Please Add A "like" button!

It makes it so much easier to communicate with a like button. It is some times hard to tell how people are reacting and a like button eliminates this. There are also times when a topic really gets going and i would have to sit there and either quote everyone or make sure i type their name (which by the way previous comments disappear once you go to respond window, if you click the back button to refer back you lose all your comments.) If we had the "like" button it would be so fast and less typing i think it would help enhance the forum experience a lot.

I've recieved some concerns about the number of topic's with graphic images or links to graphic images. Please keep in mind that although you may be able to handle it, not all members can handle the sight of animals in distress or being treated horribly.

If you feel you must share these images, please put a warning in the title or the description so that a member will get the warning before they click on the link and are met with an image that will possibly upset them.

If you feel you must share them in a thread already going on then put a warning at the very top of your reply post.

New email

My computer recently died, and it took a while for me to replace it. I do not remember my password, and have a new email. So, BC can not send me the password. How can I get back into my BC account? I don't care about the points that I lost, but, 2 of the birds I have pics of there have died. And I lost most of my pics when my computer died. What can I do?

24 hours to get an activation e-mail, when the sign-up message said "within a few minutes" .. if you can't get it out sooner, at least say it'll take up to 24 hours!

In some of the post's I have been reading, I have noticed people posting thing's like newspaper ad's and stating what their Vet's charge for services. Is it possible to add to their posts their location (the poster's hometown)? This way, if someone say's something like "My Vet charges me this", we can e-mail them directly to ask who their Vet is and where they are located. Just a thought.....

Another idea is to automatically subscribe to threads I start. Sometimes when I post a new thread, I forget to check on how I want to subscribe to the thread in the drop-down menu at the bottom. Don't know if there's a way to change that setting, but I have to come back to the site and search for my started thread. Yes, the site is VERY user friendly, Guess I'm just lazy!!!!

I have been a lurker here for quite some time. I think it would be a great idea if there was an adoption forum. So many birds are ending up on Craig's List and are being flipped. If someone is in a situation where they can no longer care for their bird and they need help surrendering it there are many good resources such as local bird clubs and avian rescues in many states. Even individuals may be interested in temporarily fostering or permanently adopting a bird in need.

i have almost 100,000 points saved and have already the birdtalk and the dogfancy magazine.always when i check what you could get for the points,then its nothing there,were i would be interessted in and i know ism not the only one.so now here ism with my points and can't use them.I'm owned by a B&G, a African Grey,a Severe macaw, a indian Ringneck and soon a Ekkie, but there is nothing for that kind of birds,no toy's or books about them and i can't use the point's on another channel,like dogchannel,either,which has much more to offer for the points,maybe you should change that and it would be nice,if we could get maybe some Toy's for our points.

Hmm.. I've never Polled anything before, I hope I've done this correctly. As I was flipping through my favorite magazine (BT), I came across the monthly centerfold. As pretty as the pretty birdies are, I really dont know the purpose of a centerfold especially when although the quality is still top notch, the quantity gradually dwindles. I'm assuming this is so due to the economy. So I really have to wonder why helpful articles are sacrificed over pretty pretty birdie pictures. The last images I pinned up were of the Hardy Boys and Shaun Cassidy and Gil Gerard as Buck Rodgers. (just last week) Bottom line, I would rather see more articles and no centerfold. How about you?

Hi, I just got a pair of lovebirds , they are pretty much throw away pets and have had more than 1 home unfortunately. I just sent an email to Bird Talk Magazine yesterday, is it me or do anyone else feel the same way about recent issues of BT. I have been subscribing for many many years and it seems as of this past year maybe the magazine sucks. There is so little in it. Mostly adds. I do not want to stop my subscription because i do feel like if they knew about it they could do something about it. I am always so excited when my BT arrives but lately it takes less than minutes to page threw nothing. I even suggested more bird room pictures show how people keep there birds do one reader a month and really go detailed or more competitions to win stuff we are all cutting back so some free stuff would be greatly appreciated. Or ask readers what they want to see more of. This is just my opinion appreciate to hear from you all.

It's a whopping 48 pages. What happened to it? As I reference back issues from my shelf I am amazed that they have 99-120 pages. They have literally cut the magazine in half without cutting the subscription cost in half! CRAZY!

Either way, when I attempt to add images to a post, or my signature, nothing happens in the post window, but I get a notice in my browser window that there is an "Error on Page"

I'm using IE8 and running Windows 7 beta, but I also tried in Firefox and it didn't work there either.

Camp Birdie/ Bird eClub Login bug

I was trying to sign up for the new Camp Birdie feature on the homepage today. But it after loging in, it asked for personal information. Reluctantly I filled that out, and it said I was signed up for their weekly newsletter. Now any time I attempt to log in to the eClub, it brings me right to that weekly newsletter signup page. Has anyone else experienced these difficulties or can offer me some help? Thank you.
