Does anyone know what type of heater one can use that is safe for a bird room.

In the past I have successfully used a space heater that had coils inside that heated up. It kinda looks like those old timey radiators that used to sit under windows in apartments. The one that I used was marketed as 'The Incredible Heat Machine." A word of caution, if you use a type of space heater be sure to plug it in for a few days well away from your birds so that any fumes from where it was manufactured has time to blow off.

Also, it is a good idea to use a humidifier as well, as these types of heating apparatus suck the moisture out of the air and can make your birds itchy and dry skinned.

carolz7, welcome toe the message board and forums.
I agree with what AC shared. The only supplemental heaters I’ve heard are safe for our fids are the oil-filled varieties that resemble the old-fashioned (though I still have them in my home) radiators. For clarity, this link will show you examples of these radiators: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw_1_11?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=oil+filled+radiator&sprefix=oil+filled+

When you do the initial “burn-in” of a new heater, have it set on high and you might want to even do it outside in a protected environment. There is an amazing amount of fumes that get burned off and then your radiator should (as with any electrical devise, random problems may develop) be safe to use.

Good luck and I look forward to hearing about your fids (feathered kids).
